Urgent Appeal for Support for Veterans with no families

Sadly, we are getting regular calls from Councils and friends of veterans, telling us that a veteran has passed away and has no family or means to pay for a dignified funeral.
Sadly, this means that for many of our veterans of all ages, they have a Council Funeral if they have no means to pay for a funeral. For many this means an unattended funeral early in the morning or a graveside service.
We believe strongly that this is not the way for anyone to take their final journey and are re-establishing the Veterans Funeral Fund to help in a small way to support families with funeral arrangements and a small but fitting funeral where they can attend, and words are said accordingly.
The fund will give a small donation as follows:
-
To ensure a veteran’s funeral is as dignified as possible rather than unattended
-
To cover expenses of a padre to attend the service
-
To assist with general essential funeral costs (not including extra’s such as Limousine’s, Order of services or flowers)
-
To ensure a small wreath is sent to acknowledge their service plus the loan of a coffin drape.
We all read of those who have served who sadly take their own lives and those who no one knows that they have passed away alone at home, and we need to make sure that no one is alone on their final journey and will help in whatever way possible to ensure every funeral has some attendance and words are spoken about the life of the deceased.
Our aim is to create a fund of £3000
