We at Veterans Bereavement Support Service believe passionately that every person who has served in the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy over the span of years, deserves to have a dignified funeral when their time to pass comes. Having established the number of veterans who have passed away over recent years who had no family or funds for a funeral has been alarming.
We therefore campaigned with every council across the Country to have a change in Policy to ensure that no one who has served has a non-attended funeral and that their passing should be marked in a dignified way and where possible with the attendance of either service or ex-service people.
The success of this campaign has seen a change in policy with Councils and they now inform us if a veteran has passed away and the council will be working with the nominated funeral directors to ensure the deceased's service is marked and that the funeral is attended.
We are also now working with hospitals who have similar protocols and have Health Authorities approaching us and accessing our services
